Preschool- Week 2 The letter “M”

I have found that there are so many things we could do with the letter M, which made this a really fun week!
Week 2 Collage
This week, we….
· Look at wooden letter M
· Practice writing letter M
· Talk about M sound
· Create a mountain M letter and add it to ABC book
· Read Book Mouse in the House by Vivian French and Tim Archibold
· Sort M&Ms by color
· Sang 10 Little Monkeys
· Counted marshmallows
· Played memory game

Also, Em learned to write her name!! (As you can see in the picture where she is practicing M) We normally call her Emmy so that is what I have taught her thus far… of course her real name is Emmalyn, but I figured we would start out easy and shorten it since she does have a long name!

I cannot stress enough how much I love homeschooling her! I know everyone is different and has different opinions about this, but I LOVE teaching her at home!

Preschool- Week 1 The letter “A”

Our first week of officially starting to homeschool is in full swing and I love it! I love being able to teach our little love bug new things and she loves learning, which makes it even better!
For week 1, I decided to start with the letter A.
Below is a list of activities that we have done this week with the letter A!
· Look at wooden letter A
· Practice writing letter A
· Play counting game with laminated apple printout
· Talk about A sound and other words that begin with A
· Create alligator A and add it to ABC Book
· Made homemade applesauce
· Read book- My Apron by Eric Carle
· Started learning about the Continents ( I decided this would be a good time considering 4 of them start with the letter A)
*Sang the song 5 Little Monkeys Sitting In A Tree

Letter A
As we move onto a different letter every week, we will add that specific letter to her ABC Book. This week we made the alligator A so we will add it to the book… Once we complete the alphabet her ABC book will be finished!   *For ABC book we are using a 3 ring binder and plastic sleeves for each letter art.
*For Wooden letters we use Plan Toys Preschool Alphabet
* I printed out the alphabet work sheets and then laminated them, that way she will be able to practice many times with dry erase marker instead of wasting a lot of paper!
* I printed out pictures of the continents and made them into 3 part cards. I laminated them and then put sticky magnets on the back that way she can practice arranging them on this cookie sheet.
* For applesauce recipe click (here).

Be My Valentine

Valentine’s Day is almost here so I decided to share some activities that we have been doing and that you can do as well!
valentine collage
First, Em and I made heart crayons… very easy and fun! To begin with, you need to gather up some crayons, decide which ones you want to pair together, then tear the paper off of them. (New crayons are easier to get paper off of!)
two
Once the paper is torn off, break them in pieces and put them into your heart mold. Pre-heat oven to 300 and put the crayons in there for 15 minutes or until completely melted.

6
After the crayons are completely melted, take crayons out of oven and let cool. I let mine cool and set up for about 3 hours before taking them out of the mold. After the crayons have hardened, pop them out of the mold and there you have it! Your little one can begin coloring with them or you can wrap them up individually and give them as gifts!

Next, we baked Valentine Sugar Cookies… Made a Heart Picture… and finally, we made salt dough hearts!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!

Potato Soup

This is the best Potato Soup! It’s thick, creamy, and has a whole lot of goodness in it! I have tried many Potato Soup recipes and always end up going back to this one! It’s definitely a keeper!

potato soup collage 2

I will warn you ahead of time, this recipe makes A LOT! If you have a small family like mine, you may want to cut this recipe in half.

Ingredients:

  • 8 Potatoes
  • 4 Cans Chicken Broth (If it is too thick for your liking you can add more as needed)
  • 1 Small Onion, Diced
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
  • 3/4 C. Flour
  • 2 C. Heavy Cream
  • 1 C. Butter
  • 2 C. Colby/ Monterey Shredded Cheese
  • 1 C. Cooked, Crumbled Bacon
  • 1/2 Green Onion

Directions:

Peel and dice potatoes, boil them…

Add salt, pepper, diced onion to broth and let simmer for 20 minutes

In a different pot, melt butter and add flour

Then add broth and heavy cream (slowly) to thicken

Add everything together and let simmer for another 20 minutes.

Cook approx. 8 strips of bacon and crumble.

When all is finished, add to bowl top with melted cheese, chopped green onions, and crumbled bacon!

You have to try this! It is delicious!!

Tips for staying healthy this winter

In order to help others be healthy, you have to stay healthy! The key is to start with you and make sure you are doing everything to keep your immune system boosted. Remember… a healthy home is a happy home!

  • Start by making sure you get an adequate amount of sleep each night, maintain a healthy diet, exercise, reduce stress, drink plenty of fluids, and wash your hands!
  • Probiotics! Approximately 80% of your immune system surrounds your digestive system. There are many foods that have probiotics that can help keep your gut flora healthy. (Organic yogurt is a good source of probiotics)
  • Natural Immunity Boosters- Herbs such as larch, oregano oil, Japanese Mushrooms & Honeysuckle flower buds, sage extract, ginger, graviola, plant ago seeds, pumpkin seeds, and elderberry are all great in helping you boost your immune system!
  • Make sure you are getting your nutrients! Vitamin B12, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Iron, Zinc, Manganese, Selenium, Phytonutrients (like garlic & Echinacea).

Here is a list of supplements/ products that we use in our household to keep us healthy and happy!

 Supplements

  • Nutriferon
  • Defend and Resist Complex- If we start to feel a little under the weather
  • Vitamin B12- I get a Vitamin B12 shot monthly
  • Vitalizer- I take Vitalizer for women and my husband takes the Vitalizer for men
  • Incredivites Multivitamin- This is the multivitamin that we give our daughter (age 3) and it contains lactoferrin (nutrient also found naturally in breast milk and researched for its role in activating components of the immune system)
