White battling a migraine, I set out to find something to relieve some pain. While searching I ran across hot/cold packs and I knew right then I needed to give it a try. Rather than running out and trying to find out pre-made at a store, I decided to make my own.
All you need is two scrap pieces of fabric (I chose a knit fabric that would not fray).
Rice (I used white rice)
Thread and Sewing machine!
Also, I wanted to add something more to mine so I added Lavender essential oil. Just a couple of drops goes a long way!
First, you cut out two pieces of fabric. Here I am making a rick pack that goes over your eyes, so I didn’t measure I just drew the design on a piece of paper and then used it for a template to cut my fabric. I made this one specifically to fit my face, so you can adjust the size according to your specific wants/needs.
Then, lay the fabric on top of each other… be sure to put right sides facing outward! Start sewing around the edges, leave about an inch opening to allow you to fill the pack with rice. Fill with rice, then proceed to sew the seam together.
I used a fancy little stich to give it some character, but you can do a regular stitch and it will work just fine!
Also, if you choose to add an essential oil to your rice, just add a couple of drops and mix together. Remember, a couple of drops will go a long way!
You can heat or freeze this rice pack. If frozen be sure not to get wet, because it will start to grow mold. I normally just heat mine, because I find that to be very relaxing! If you choose to heat, put in microwave for about 30 seconds and it should be nice and toasty!
